Controlled explosion carried out on hoax device

A security alert in Glengormley has ended after it was declared to be a hoax.

Police received a report shortly after 11:15 BST on Thursday that a suspicious device had been left on Thursday at Ashford Lodge off the Ballyclare Road.

Ammunition technical officers attended and carried out a controlled explosion on the device - which was later confirmed a hoax and non-viable, police have said.

Several homes in the area had been evacuated but residents have since been allowed to return.

All roads in the area have now been reopened.

Police have said that their investigation is ingoing and have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.
