Sports club takes top award at Battle of Flowers

A Jersey sports and social club has claimed the top award at the island's annual Battle of Flowers.

The carnival began on Friday with a parade of brightly decorated floats.

The Optimists Club, a members sports and social club founded in 1963, was awarded the Prix D'Honneur by judges for it's Disney's Moana themed float.

Celebrations will continue on Saturday and Sunday and will include a performance from Eurovision pop star Sam Ryder.

Other award winners included the island parish Grouville, which was handed The Prix D'Excellence for it's 1960's themed float and St Saviour parish which won the Prix d'Honneur de Papier for its Alice in Wonderland entry.
