Woman struck and killed in lorry crash

The woman died at the scene of the crash on the A66, near to Riverside Stadium

A 49-year-old woman died after being hit by a lorry on a major road.
The heavy goods vehicle was travelling eastbound on the A66 through North Ormesby, Middlesbrough, at about 16:40 GMT on Thursday when it the struck the pedestrian.
Cleveland Police said the woman died at the scene despite the efforts of the emergency services.
The road was closed until about midnight and police have asked anyone who witnessed the crash to contact them.
