A community-owned skatepark says it is facing "significant cost" after chunks of its wooden fences were ripped down, apparently to build a beach bonfire.

The Front Skatepark in Weymouth, Dorset, said staff found several sections of its car park fence and signs damaged on Friday morning.

The charity said charred remnants of the wood were found in the remains of a bonfire on the nearby beach, along with broken glass and bottles.

A spokesperson said: "This criminal damage is going to have a significant cost to our charity, in times that are already financially challenging."

A spokesperson for the not-for-profit facility said the incident had been reported to Dorset Police and urged anyone with information to get in touch.
