Fire crews tackled a blaze at a vacant factory site.

Devon and Somerset Fire Service was called at 12:42 GMT to a fire at the former Oscar Mayer site in Furnham Road, Chard, which closed in 2021.

Crews used foam to extinguish the fire in the outbuilding, which is believed to be a temporary building.

A spokesperson for the service said it believed the fire was started deliberately.

Residents nearby were asked to shut their windows and doors as plumes of smoke could be seen billowing from the site.

They added that a fire investigation would now take place.
