Street 'lifeless' since removal of planters

Victoria Road has been left "lifeless" by the removal of planters, a councillor has said

A road has been left "lifeless" since the removal of trees and planters, a councillor has claimed.
Last month, Dorset Council announced that work would begin on 20 January so new planters and seating would be installed on Victoria Road, Ferndown, later in the year.
Dorset Council councillor Mike Parkes claimed the removal of the old planters had encouraged inappropriate parking, including parking on the pavements.
Portfolio holder Jon Andrews said the planters were removed because they were deteriorating, and were considered a health and safety risk.

The street used to have trees and planters on it
Speaking at the February meeting of Dorset Council, Mr Parkes, who represents Ferndown North ward, said: "Many shop keepers and local residents have asked why the planters and trees have been removed when no consideration is being given to the issues of people parking on the pavements,"
"On-street parking was very much a fundamental to any regeneration of the street scene."
Mr Andrews said Dorset Council was working with Ferndown Town Council to produce "a variety of options" to solve the problem.
"These will be fully costed and will take account of the current pavement parking," he said.
"The two councils will work together to identify an appropriate and suitable budget for the work.
"As soon as plans are available, there will be a consultation exercise with residents and business owners."
