Man to stand trial next year over fatal collision

The trial of a man accused of causing a fatal collision has been scheduled for next year.

Derren Goddard, 50, of Harmans Way, Weedon, Northamptonshire, will stand trial on 17 August 2026 in connection with the death of 76-year-old Keith Turnidge.

Mr Turnidge was sitting on a bench on Bridge Street in Weedon Bec when he was struck by a white Mini Cooper on 8 June 2023.

He was airlifted to University Hospital Coventry but later died from his injuries.

Mr Goddard has been charged with causing death by driving without due care and attention while unfit through drink, and causing death by driving without due care and attention while over the prescribed alcohol limit.

At a hearing at Northampton Crown Court on 7 February, he pleaded not guilty to the first charge and did not enter a plea to the second.

He was released on bail ahead of his next court appearance on 21 July.
