Police officers investigating reports of a stabbing have said a man has suffered "life-threatening" injuries.

Cambridgeshire Constabulary began an inquiry at about 12:00 BST on Wednesday after paramedics reported a man had been stabbed in Nicholson Way, Cambridge.

A police spokeswoman said the man had been taken to hospital and the scene had been cordoned off by officers.

She said police searches of the area were taking place.

"Officers are at the scene and are likely to remain there for some time," said the spokeswoman.

"A cordon is in place to preserve any forensic evidence and searches of the area are taking place."

She urged anyone with information to come forward.
