Truck gets stuck while rescuing car from beach mud

A truck sent to help a stuck car ended up stranded in the tide too

A rescue truck had to be rescued itself after it tried to recover a car stuck in mud on a beach.

As the green flatbed truck went to rescue the black car, which had been stuck overnight on Cleethorpes beach, it also became stuck in the sand.

The truck was recovered from the beach by a second rescue vehicle, but the car is still submerged on the beach.

A North East Lincolnshire Council spokesperson said it was the "owner’s responsibility to remove the vehicle and prevent pollution", but it was "monitoring the situation" and would "assist where we can".

The spokesperson said the authority had spoken to the owner of the car and offered assistance from the council, but were told they would be "attempting a self rescue".

They added the car remained submerged and would be removed "at the next possible opportunity."

The North Promenade Wonderland Slipway would also remain closed until the incident was resolved, the spokesperson said.

This is the second time in recent months a vehicle has become stranded on the beach, which has muddy patches from the tidal estuary.

The council's own beach buggy became stuck in the sands in May, when it tried to come to the aid of stranded beachgoers.

Cleethorpes residents were bemused by the incident, with many sharing pictures of the incident on social media joking: "You can't park there, mate."
