'Green oasis' street food venue planned

Plans have been submitted to turn a patch of disused land into a new street food venue - described as a “green oasis amidst a dense built area" - in Bradford.
The proposals would turn the triangular area at the junction of Thornton Road and Listerhills Road into a new venue named TriYard.
The stalls would serve a mix of cuisines from around the world and the space would also host regular food festivals and other outdoor events.
Developers Mi7 Projects Ltd said the venue would be a “cultural meeting point to celebrate the rich and diverse food offerings in Bradford”.
The development hopes to support local vendors who are struggling to find a place within the newly-reduced market place area, as well as providing a unique social space for students at the nearby university campus.
“Located within walking distance of the city centre, TriYard celebrates Bradford’s rich diversity in street food culture," the developers said.
The site would be enhanced by “colourful murals, street art and warm lighting" and feature local street food vendors offering cuisines "from Asian teas to Middle Eastern healthy bites”, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
The proposal also says there will be "an emphasis on environment, with greener food offerings and a design built around nature".
“Food stalls, seating and pathways are arranged to create a natural flow from all three sides, blending industrial and modern aesthetics with greenery,” it adds.
“The food and drink kiosks are arranged around landscaped walkways to create a sense of green oasis amidst a dense built area.”
Last year Bradford Council granted temporary planning permission for a street food business based in a “renovated vintage vehicle” to be based on the triangular plot of land.
A condition of that approval was that the site would need to be cleared within two years of the business being set up. A cafe has since been built on the site.
The planning application for the new street food venture says: “TriYard is designed to develop a viable use for the vacant site while expanding the food offerings in this prime location."
A decision on the application is expected before the end of the year.
