A man has been arrested after a driver refused to stop for police and headbutted an officer when he was tasered.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said it found a black BMW 220i being driven along Lymington High Street with one tyre off a wheel, at about 07:10 GMT on Sunday.

The force said the car failed to stop and after a pursuit it used its police car to make tactical contact with the vehicle on Lower Buckland Road, where officers tasered the man when he tried to drive off again.

A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop and assaulting an emergency worker.

The man, from New Milton, was also held for failing to provide a specimen and criminal damage, the force said.

He has since been released on bail while further inquiries are carried out.
