Police have launched an investigation after an elderly woman found badly hurt in Kiveton Park in September died of her injuries.

The woman, who was found in a property on Peveril Close on 11 September, was taken to hospital for treatment but died as a result of her injuries on Wednesday.

South Yorkshire Police said the force had launched an investigation and a scene remained in place on Peveril Close while officers carried out forensic examinations.

Det Insp Adam Watkinson appealed to anyone with information to come forward.

He said: "Our priority is determining the circumstances that has sadly resulted in the death of a much-loved elderly woman.

"Understandably, we know this will cause some concerns in the local community.

"You will see our officers in the local area over the new few days while we conduct our inquiries."
