Three more schools join CCTV parking scheme

Three more schools will install CCTV at the gates to deter parents from unsafe parking.
The council scheme has so far been installed at seven schools in North East Lincolnshire, resulting in 236 fines.
Councillor Ron Shepherd, portfolio holder for safer and stronger communities, said the results at a school in his ward, Scartho Junior, were “really encouraging”, and drivers had changed their behaviour.
The initiative was first launched at Signhills Academy in Cleethorpes in September 2022 and extended to six further schools.
According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS), Macaulay Primary Academy, Ormiston South Parade Academy, and Lisle Marsden C Of E Primary Academy, will follow suit.
Parents found illegally parking in the first two weeks of CCTV being installed will be issued a warning letter. After this period, a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) will be issued.
'Given 16 tickets'
Mr Shepherd said: "The aim of these measures is to make our school gates safer for children and young people, and I am confident that this is being seen."
The councillor told the LDRS he had heard anecdotally of an individual who had been "given 16 parking tickets" and that her attitude had been that her husband would pay the fines.
Mr Shepherd emphasised that it was "a rarity" in terms of attitude towards the scheme.
The LDRS contacted the council to verify his claims.
A North East Lincolnshire Council spokesperson said: "We would not be able to comment publicly on an individual circumstance, however overall, most people only receive one PCN."
They added there were only a small number of "repeat contraveners".
