A business that sells knives and guns has surrendered more than 100 weapons that will soon be classified as illegal to police.

DAI Leisure in Brierley Hill, Dudley, handed over 108 knives as part of a surrender scheme run by West Midlands Police.

From 24 September it will be illegal to own zombie-style knives and machetes.

As part of the scheme, the force has been organising bulk surrenders with retailers.

DAI Leisure sells a range of sporting goods and accessories including replica airguns, shotguns and Rambo knives and offers a gun delivery service.

Under the police scheme, businesses can claim compensation for the stock they have surrendered.

Individuals can also dispose of their weapons in surrender bins around the region.

Weapons that are already banned include butterfly knives, most swords, external and push daggers.

Insp Colin Gallier, who leads the taskforce that inspects knife crime, said in a statement that DAI Leisure had "acted responsibly" and the police would now dispose of the knives.

"It is good to know that those knives are now off the market, so [they] can't get into the hands of anyone who wants to use them for sinister reasons," he added.

Knives can be surrendered at the following police stations:

  • Birmingham Central

  • Bournville

  • Stechford

  • Sutton Coldfield

  • Coventry Central

  • Brierley Hill

  • West Bromwich

  • Solihull

  • Bloxwich

  • Wolverhampton
