A dementia care home in Taunton is encouraging local people living with or affected by the condition to come along to its free monthly memory café.

The Rectory Care Home on Trinity Road is offering tea, coffee, cakes, and a "listening ear" to anyone who would like to drop in.

The team opened the café for the first time this week, and hope to hold similar events over the coming weeks.

Manager of The Rectory, Abbie Foster, says the aim of the café is to provide a "supportive and friendly environment".

'It can be lonely'

She said she hopes people will be able to relax, make new friends and chat with others about available support.

“Our residents and my colleagues understand how difficult – and sometimes lonely - it can be when you’re living with, or caring for, someone with dementia," Ms Foster added.

"We’re trying to let as many people as possible know about this new venture."

The memory café is free to attend and doesn't charge for refreshments - but donations would be appreciated.
