Firm offers redundancy amid 'operational review'

An electronics distributor is offering a voluntary redundancy programme to employees following an "operational review".

RS Components in Corby is one of the town's biggest employers.

As first reported by the Northamptonshire Telegraph,, external the firm is looking for up to 100 redundancies from its warehouse on Birchington Road.

In a statement it said: "We are in the early stages of our discussions and are unable to comment further until the consultation period is complete."

The company said it had "considered several processes" before settling on offering voluntary redundancy to "a number of contracted shift workers".

The news comes after more than 130 jobs were cut at the site in February.

The BBC has approached the Usdaw union - which represents workers at RS Components - for comment.

The company started life as Radiospares in London in 1937.

It opened a distribution centre in Corby in 1984 as the town was recovering from the closure of most of its steelworks.
