A woman has died after being hit by a vehicle while walking along a dual carriageway.

Dorset Police said the 24-year-old, from the Poole area, was struck eastbound on the A35 Upton bypass from Upton towards the Shell garage on Wednesday at about 20:10 GMT.

She was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Police are appealing for witnesses and any drivers with dashcam footage to come forward.

Sgt Lee Savage, of the Dorset Police traffic unit, said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who sadly died in this collision and we have specially trained officers supporting them at this difficult time.

"We know there were a large number of witnesses to this incident and I am appealing for anyone who saw what happened and has not already spoken to police to please come forward."
