Work is set to begin on restoring a section of the A1 southbound carriageway that has been partially closed since a fatal crash almost 10 months ago.
One lane has been shut over Billing Brook at Water Newton, near Peterborough, after a lorry left the road and crashed into a field on 1 November 2024.
The driver, Daniel Casariu from Luton, died at the scene.
From 1 September there will be a series of overnight and weekend closures between Wansford and Alwalton in Cambridgeshire.
The crash damaged a culvert supporting the road, believed to be more than 100 years old.
Repairing it has been considered complex due to a large water main near the road and the brook, which runs into a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
The site is also close to the remains of a Roman town.
To protect motorists, the lane closest to the structure has been closed.
The latest works will temporarily realign the carriageway by moving the central reservation, allowing two lanes of traffic to reopen at a reduced speed of 40mph.
Full repairs to the culvert are then scheduled to begin in 2026 to 2027.
Closure dates
Preparation works for the realignment are due to take place from 1 to 12 September, with weeknight closures from 21:00 to 05:00 BST.
The main works to the carriageway will then take place over seven weekends, starting on 12 September until late October.
There will be a full southbound closure during this point, between 21:00 on Friday and 05:00 on Monday. Diversions, external will be put in place.
