A man has been charged after a crash between a van and a horse in Cornwall, police have said.

An eight-year-old girl was flown to hospital and the horse she was riding had to be put down after the crash at Altarnun, near Launceston, on Sunday.

A 61-year-old man has been charged with a number of driving offences including driving while disqualified and failing to stop after a road accident, said Devon and Cornwall Police.

He has been released on bail and is due to appear before Bodmin Magistrates Court in February.
