A man has been taken to hospital after his van left the road and went down a steep ravine in East Sussex.

The vehicle left the road at Westmeston, near Ditchling, shortly before 07:45 BST.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue said three fire engines from both East and West Sussex attended.

The South East Coast Ambulance service said the man was able to get himself out of the vehicle, and was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.

He is not thought to be seriously injured.

It is thought it took almost an hour to locate the vehicle after police were initially called.

Sussex Police and the Hazardous Area Response Team were also at the scene.

Temporary road closures were in place while the incident was dealt with, but all roads have now reopened.
