A dispersal order has been issued after reports of antisocial behaviour, criminal damage and violence in a Nottinghamshire town, police said.

The measure put in place in Kimberley will run from 16:00 GMT on Thursday until midnight.

The eight-hour order covers Main Street, Newdigate Street, Noel Street, Broomhill Road, Greens Lane, Regent Street, James Street, Chapter Drive, and High Street, the force said.

It means officers will have the power to move people away from the specified areas and arrest those who fail to leave.

Sgt Simon Boyles said: "Over the last two weeks we have received reported incidents of antisocial behaviour, criminal damage, and violence in the Main Street area, as well as disorder taking place around the car park area at the rear of Sainsbury’s and the council car park area in Greens Lane.

"This order is a preventative tool giving us additional powers to prevent, deter, and reduce any disorder and to move people on if they are causing any issues in these areas."

He added the force would authorise further dispersal orders if it felt they were necessary.
