An Aberdeenshire child sex abuser who photographed his own crimes has been jailed.

Alan Moir, 43, of St Cyrus, was caught after cybercrime investigators discovered he was using his home Wi-Fi to share the illegal content online.

Moir admitted sexually assaulting a young child between 2018 and 2019, and also a charge involving indecent photographs of children.

At the High Court in Edinburgh, he was jailed for four years.

Moir was brought to justice following intelligence from National Online Child Abuse Prevention (NOCAP) staff.

Police then obtained a search warrant.

Upon examining the devices, officers found images of Moir sexually assaulting a girl.

Moir was a first offender who had worked in the oil and gas industry before his arrest.

'Significant harm'

Defence advocate Gillan Ross KC said that Moir had lost his job.

She said: "He is motivated to try and secure some form of employment upon his release from custody.

"He recognises that he may still have issues and that is something that he will address in custody. He will be accepting any offer of help given to him."

Lady Haldane told Moir he had admitted serious crimes.

The judge said it was clear that "significant harm" has been caused to the child victim.

Moir was also placed on the sex offenders register for life.
