Sisters recreate 'precious' beach snap 40 years on

Three sisters have re-enacted a photo of themselves on a beach, 40 years on.

Time has separated sisters Tracey, 60, Elaine, 66, and Pam, 69, with two of them living in Devon, but they found a "precious" moment to recreate the photo of themselves on Castle Beach in Falmouth.

For the Martin sisters, originally from Penryn near Falmouth, it was a return to a favourite spot where they would go to meet family and friends.

Tracey Waygood, from Bovey Tracey in Devon, said: "We had been wanting to do this photo for years but we were never around at the same time."

'Lot of love'

She said: "It's a precious moment when we get together, so we make the most of the time."

The Castle Beach Cafe kiosk in the background has been replaced with a portable unit after storms washed away the original building.

But the sisters tried to replicate as much as they could.

They found a rug with a similar pattern and even packets of crisps and biscuits for added authenticity.

Elaine still lives in Penryn, while Pam lives in Exeter and two other siblings live in Canada.

"We were blessed with amazing parents that dedicated their lives to our upbringing," said Ms Waygood.

"There was never a lot of money but there was always a lot of love.

"We were called the Flying Martins because we were all sporty.

"It was simpler times then, mum would make us pasties and we would go to the beach.

"It was a real community, there were always cousins and people from down the street," she said.

"We just had fun and those days are really cherished now as we only meet up rarely."
