A man who suffered injuries in a serious attack told police he was assaulted with a bottle inside a car while it was travelling to Birmingham.

The victim, in his 20s, was found on on Saturday at about 04:00 BST on Holly Lane, Wishaw, near Sutton Coldfield and the M6 Toll, Warwickshire Police said.

He told officers he had got out of the car at a layby on the A446 London Road and then walked for about 15 minutes over farmland until he was found.

The man and his attacker were known to each other and it was thought this was an isolated incident, Det Con Jon Shand said.

"We’re keen to speak to anyone with dashcam footage from the area at the time or who saw the victim while he was walking towards Holly Lane," he added.

The victim was taken to hospital with injuries to his body, leg and hands.

Efforts were ongoing to try to find the Toyota C-HR both men were travelling in which has a white emblem on the front and may have damage inside after the struggle, the force said.
