Organisers plan to contact participants "in the next few days" to arrange refunds

Two Devon running races have been cancelled because of bad weather warnings.

The Torbay half marathon and 10km (6.2 miles) were due to take place on Sunday in the south Devon town.

Bur organisers said they had decided to cancel the event because of safety concerns.

Suzi Cumberland, the event's race director, said said cancelling the race was the organisers' only option because of "predicted wind speeds" and a yellow weather warning across the region.

She said: "The safety and well-being of participants, spectators, and all those associated with the delivery of our events is our absolute priority.

"We are sorry that it has been necessary to cancel the events at short notice and completely understand that many people will be disappointed."

Organisers said they planned to contact participants "in the next few days" to arrange refunds, as it would not be possible to reschedule the races in 2024.
