Police are appealing for witnesses after a burglary at a Co-op supermarket in Ashford

Four men have been arrested following a burglary at a Co-op supermarket in Surrey.

Police received a report that four men had entered the store in Church Road, Ashford, and stole a large quantity of tobacco from the shelves.

One of the men reportedly threatened a shop worker with a knife, leaving them shaken but uninjured, police said.

Four men, aged 28, 30, 42 and 62, have been arrested on suspicion of burglary and released on conditional bail, pending further enquiries.

The incident happened shortly before 08:00 BST on 1 September.

Cdr Insp Matt Walton said: "This criminal behaviour is not tolerated in Spelthorne and when we receive reports of violent or threatening activity, we will take swift action to identify the suspects."

Anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have information is urged to contact the force.
