A motorcyclist has died in a crash with a car in north Bristol.

The collision between a Volkswagen Polo car and a motorbike happened in Kings Weston Lane, in Avonmouth, shortly before 07:00 GMT on Thursday.

The rider of the motorbike, who has not yet been formally identified but is believed to have been a man in his thirties, died at the scene.

Police said his family had been informed and were being supported by specialist officers.

The road was closed between its junctions with St Andrew's Road and Merebank Road to allow investigative inquiries to be carried out on Thursday morning, before reopening shortly before 13:30 GMT.

Police have urged anyone with information, including dashcam or CCTV footage, to get in touch.
