Residents were evacuated from their homes in part of Wakefield after police discovered a "potentially suspicious device" at a property.

West Yorkshire Police said officers carried out investigations at a home on Agincourt Drive, Altofts, near Normanton, on Thursday when they found the device.

The item was assessed promptly and found "not to be of concern", police said.

The evacuation and cordon around the property, which was lifted at about 20:00 GMT, were ordered "purely as a precaution", a force spokesperson said.
