Teenager arrested over attack on fan after Fife derby

The attack happened after the Raith Rovers and Dunfermline Athletic match

A 17-year-old male has been arrested after an attack on a 18-year-old Raith Rovers fan following the club's clash with Dunfermline Athletic.

Footage on social media shows a male supporter lying on the ground as he is repeatedly kicked by a group.

Police Scotland said the young fan was taken to hospital and it was working with both clubs to identify those responsible.

The force said inquiries were ongoing to trace others involved in the incident on on Tuesday.

Insp Neil McGurk added: "This type of behaviour is unacceptable and will not be tolerated."

Football fans posted on social media to say the 18-year-old had hearing aids that were damaged during the assault.

Section North West, a Dunfermline Athletic fan group, said none of the individuals involved were members of the ultras section at East End Park - but offered an apology to the Raith Rovers fan on behalf of the group.

The group offered to pay towards the replacement of the hearing device.

Posting on X, formerly Twitter, Raith said the club was in touch with the fan and would support them privately.

It said: "We have contacted the supporter to check on their wellbeing and to see how we can provide support in any way possible."

Dunfermline said it would work with authorities to support the fan and anyone found to have taken part would be banned from East End Park.

A post on the club's website adds: "The club condemns all forms of violence in the strongest possible way and we we will support the authorities in identifying any individuals involved."

Anyone with information has been asked to contact police via the non-emergency line.
