'Give Luke Humphries freedom of borough' - Tories
- Published
The Conservatives in Cheshire East are calling for darts champion Luke Humphries to be recognised with freedom of the borough following his success in this week’s PDC World Darts Final.
Humphries, 28, lives in Crewe and has earned himself the nickname Cool Hand Luke. He is number one in the sport’s world rankings.
He won 7-4 against teenager Luke Littler from Warrington, in a match watched by millions on viewers from across the UK and worldwide.
Audlem councillor Rachel Bailey said: “His commitment has put both the local area and darts on the map.”
As well as winning the final on Wednesday, Humphries is also World Grand Prix champion, Grand Slam of Darts champion, and Players Championship Finals champion.
He also won the 2019 PDC World Youth Championship.
Ms Bailey said the council should recognise his success by awarding him freedom of the borough, the highest honour a local authority can bestow.
Cheshire East Council has been approached for a comment.
