Kent artist doodles over entire train carriage

A Kent artist has started to create the "world's first doodle train" by covering an entire 50ft (15m) train carriage with his signature doodles.

Sam Cox, known as Mr Doodle, rose to fame after he covered every inch of his Tenterden home with doodle art.

He took on the challenge on Friday - his largest vehicle to date - as part of Kent & East Sussex Railway's (K&ESR) 50th anniversary.

"It's going to be so fun. It’s especially nice that it’s all happening in my hometown," said Mr Cox, who has funded the project.

He started to create the artwork, drawing doodles directly onto a special protective wrap, live at the platform in Tenterden from 11:00 BST.

It is expected to take a few hours.

"There's a good amount of space for me to work onto, it is going to be a very enjoyable process I think really," he told BBC Radio Kent.

Mr Doodle has covered everything from a Formula One car to his own home in his signature doodles

The heritage railway company will also have Mr Doodle activities at the station over the weekend.

Visitors can doodle their own cardboard train and take part in a treasure hunt to spot a series of his signature doodles around the station.

Robin Coombes said the company hoped to bring new audiences to the railway

Robin Coombes, K&ESR General Manager, said: "Some heritage rail enthusiasts might raise their eyebrows at this initiative."

But he said the railway firm was "committed to not only celebrating the achievements of the past five decades but also to looking to the future and how we can continue to thrive".
