A "safer" link route is being built for cyclists and pedestrians to get into town from Corby railway station

Work to provide a safer route for pedestrians and cyclists between a railway station and a town centre will start early next month.

Towns Fund, external cash was awarded by the previous Tory government to North Northamptonshire Council for the new Corby station link road.

The route will cover Elizabeth Street, Oakley Road and Station Road and will see the existing underpass closed.

The build is due to be completed by Spring 2025.

David Brackenbury, executive member for growth and regeneration at the Conservative-run council, said:

"We have undertaken two public engagement or consultation periods, taken on board feedback and tweaked the design to ensure it is the most fit-for-purpose it can be.

“In the short term, there may be some localised disruption, which we will do all we can to minimise."

Jason Smithers, council leader, said the route would "really transform the area".

"I hope that once finished, more people will be encouraged to travel on foot and cycle between the town centre and station, which not only improves people’s health and wellbeing levels but has a positive impact on the environment," he said.

The upgrade will include a new pedestrian crossing and upgrades to some existing crossings, a segregated cycleway and footway, and improvements to highway drainage and street lighting.
