A road in Plymouth has been closed due to a gas leak on a site where a new crematorium is being built.

Plymouth City Council said emergency services and Wales and West Utilities were at Merafield Road and were liaising with its contractors after the alarm was raised on Monday afternoon.

Devon and Cornwall Police said gas was no longer leaking, but road closures would remain in place "for a short time in both directions".

The council said two-way temporary lights would be put in place and would be "manually controlled during the morning and evening rush hours".
