Motorists have been warned to expect some disruption during the overhaul of an electric tram crossing in the east of the Isle of Man.

The project is on the crossing between the Liverpool Arms and Baldrine Park in Lonan.

It will see the lights, matrix signs and poles, along with the crossing controller and controller base replaced.

The Department of Infrastructure said the upgrade was "vital for traffic safety" at the crossing after the electronics had become "obsolete".

The equipment, which forms part of the Manx Electrcic Railway, was now being upgraded "after a long and effective life", it added.

Temporary traffic lights will operate while contractors work close to the road side and a 30mph (48km/h) speed limit will be in place for the duration of the works.

The work is expected to be completed by 1 March.
