Police are appealing for witnesses after a man fell from a building in Worcestershire and was seriously injured.

The man, in his 20s, fell from the roof of Threadneedle House on Alcester Street in Redditch at around 14:00 GMT on Thursday.

Armed police were dispatched to the scene following reports of gunfire but West Mercia Police later confirmed no firearm was discharged.

The man was taken to hospital where he remains with serious injuries but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Detectives are still trying to find two men who were believed to be on the roof at the time of the incident.

Det Insp Warren Matthews said residents would continue to see extra officers around Threadneedle House on Friday.

"We understand this incident has caused concern and I would like to reiterate that there is no wider risk to the public," he said.

"Despite some speculation we can confirm that a firearm was not discharged during the incident.

"If you were in Alcester Street or the surrounding area yesterday afternoon and saw the man fall or saw any unusual activity, please contact me."

He added: "I would also like to speak to the two men who were on the roof at the time of the incident as they will be able to help with our enquiries.

"Again, I would ask these men, or anyone who knows who they are, to get in contact with me."
