Lorry fire closes A50 carriageway

Part of the A50 in Derbyshire has been closed westbound due to a lorry fire.

Shortly after 07:00 BST, National Highways said the road had been shut between the A38 at Toyota Island and the A516 at Hilton.

A diversion was put in place and shortly before 08:00 traffic caught in the closure was released past the scene, said the authority.

One lane was reopened at 15:20 but long delays remain in the area.

A spokesman for the fire service said they were called to the scene shortly before 06:00, with two appliances and a water carrier attending

No injuries were reported or rescues required, they added.

Firefighters left the scene shortly after 09:00.
