Two jailed for helping murder suspects flee the UK

Two men have been jailed for helping two suspected murderers flee the country.
Abdul Hakim, 26, and Nasser Nashir, 33, both pleaded guilty to assisting an offender in connection with the death of Lamar Leroy Griffiths in Sheffield.
Mr Griffiths, 21, was shot at the Diamond Hand Car Wash in Burngreave on 29 March 2022.
Hakim was jailed for seven years and eight months at Sheffield Crown Court, with Nashir imprisoned for five years.
Mr Griffiths was hit by a bullet when two men fired multiple gunshots at the car wash and died from his injuries.
Det Ch Insp Andrea Bowell said he was "simply going about his normal life" and police did not believe he was the target of the attack.
No-one has ever been charged with his murder.
A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said Hakim and Nashir took action to destroy evidence relating to the offence and help two murder suspects escape justice.
Det Ch Insp Bowell, the senior investigating officer in the case, said Hakim made attempts to set fire to the vehicle used in the attack.
"Both he and Nashir then made extensive car journeys, driving the suspects to various points of exit within the UK, in order to help the suspects flee the country," she added.
"They were determined and persistent in their efforts and faced challenges due to Covid restrictions which were in place at the time."
Hakim, of Cardwell Drive, Sheffield, also pleaded guilty to arson and possession of cannabis with intent to supply, as well as possession of an offensive weapon in a public place in relation to a separate incident.
Det Ch Insp Bowell said the investigation had been "complex and lengthy", adding: "We realise that a wait for justice takes a further toll on a grieving family.
"The investigation continues to progress and we will do everything within our power to bring those they helped before the UK Courts.”
