The former Magic Tree Nursery site will now house a day care centre for up to 20 dogs

A nursery that closed suddenly due to the collapse of its parent company is to be turned into a dog day care centre.

Proposals to transform the former Magic Tree Day Nursery in Dereham have been given the green light by Breckland Council.

Parents were left in the lurch last year after childcare provider Alpha Nurseries, which ran the centre, announced it would be closing all of its sites.

The Ipswich-based company provided nursery and after-school childcare at 22 sites across seven counties, including three in Norfolk.

Managing director Gerard Dooley said the closure of the company was due to its "financial position".

The vacant Magic Tree Day Nursery will now be turned into a day care facility for up to 20 dogs, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

The nursery, in Yaxham Road, closed in December along with Safe Hands Day Nursery in Diss and The Willows Day Nursery in Downham Market.
