A fresh series of road closures will start later as part of the A63 Castle Street scheme.

The route will be partially closed between Daltry Street and Roger Millward Way for 23 nights and there will be a full weekend closure, National Highways has confirmed.

Castle Street is undergoing a £355m redesign that involves lowering the level of the road to create an underpass and split-level junction at Mytongate.

Excavation of the underpass is "progressing well", officials have said, but traffic is likely to be busy and motorists should plan for essential travel.

Michael Upshon, the project manager, said the night-time closures would "limit disruption" at peak times.

The full weekend closure was necessary to allow machinery to be "carefully assembled on site and then taken down" to the underpass, he added.

Overnight closures on the westbound carriageway will begin later and run until Saturday, from 20.00 BST to 06:00 the next day.

The eastbound carriageway will be closed between 20:00 and 06:00 on the nights of:

  • 2 to 7 June

  • 10 to 14 June

  • 17 to 21 June

  • 27 and 28 June

In addition, a full weekend closure will run from 14 June at 20:00, to 17 June at 06:00. On 14 June, the westbound carriageway will remain open until 22:00 because of Hull KR's match against Huddersfield Giants.
