A lollipop lady is cheering up the school run with her fancy dress costumes.

Clare Parkin is dressing up every day to raise money for St Mary’s Hospice in south Cumbria.

For a week, Ms Parkin is helping children to safely make their way to Crosslands School, in Ulverston, dressed as a different character.

“I had a parent come up to me this morning saying we’ve managed to get our child to school because she wants to know what I am wearing every day," she said.

On some days, Ms Parkin has a costume change between the morning and afternoon crossings.

She has dressed up as a banana, Super Mario's brother Luigi, Elvis, Cruella De Vil, Buzz Lightyear, a fairy, and, in her highlight of the week, a banana riding a chicken.

Ms Parkin's wants to raise £500 for St Mary's hospice.

"They do so many things for so many people, I wanted to raise some money for this fantastic hospice," she said.
