A police officer allegedly had sex with a vulnerable woman over a nine-month period and sent her "degrading messages".

A statement on Avon and Somerset Constabulary's website says PC Ross Knox was accused of breaching the standards of professional behaviour for police officers.

It says PC Knox, who based in South Gloucestershire, knew the woman was vulnerable and failed to safeguard her.

He faces a misconduct hearing before Chief Constable Sarah Crew on Friday.

The notice reads: “The alleged facts are: Between April 2022 and January 2023, the officer had sexual intercourse on several occasions with a woman, who he knew to be vulnerable and who he failed to safeguard.

“The sexual intercourse was consensual, and happened while he was off duty."

He is also alleged to have sent sexually explicit messages to the woman, including messages which referred to her in a degrading manner, and images of himself in police uniform, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS)., external

The police statement says, if proven, the allegations amount to gross misconduct.
