Pharmacies 'first port of call' over bank holiday
- Published
Pharmacists in Cornwall are a "great first port of call" for minor conditions over the bank holiday weekend, heal bosses say.
The NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Integrated Care Board said pharmacists could help prevent people having to go to see the doctor or wait at an emergency department.
Pharmacies could provide advice and a fast route to medicines and antibiotics for conditions such as earache, impetigo, shingles and sore throats, it said.
Pharmacist Rebecca Emery of Day Lewis Pharmacy said people were "unaware" of the help pharmacists could provide.
She said: "Whether it’s sunburn, a bite or sting, or an upset tummy, we’re on hand throughout the bank holiday, as always.
"By using your local pharmacist when appropriate, you can save yourself a long wait, as well as doing your bit to reduce pressure on other health services.
"They’re available for people who are in greatest need of them."
