A long-derelict former Derbyshire industrial site which has become host to anti-social behaviour could gain a new lease of life.

Plans have been submitted for an industrial unit in Park Road between Stanton and Newhall, opposite what is now a golf course on the former Cadley mine.

The plot had been part of the former Bretby Colliery which operated for 86 years, but it has been in a state of decay since the site's closure in 1962.

DLS Homes, based in Derby, has submitted a plan to South Derbyshire District Council to build an industrial and business unit, which it said could create 12 new jobs.

The site is currently home to a crumbling red-brick former warehouse and a number of walls of previous buildings, all of which are now covered in graffiti.

This plot has become host to consistent anti-social behaviour, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

Residents have regularly raised issues relating to the site, including at district council meetings attended by police

The applicants looked at developing the site for residential or camping uses, but were told by the council that employment units were "the preferred option".

Advice provided to the applicants by district council officials said: “Officers understand the nature of the existing site has invited anti-social behaviour.

"The redevelopment of the site would help to deter anti-social behaviour at the site.”

If approved, the existing buildings on the Park Road site would be demolished to make way for the new industrial building, along with 24 parking spaces.

Areas with mine shafts are to be left as landscaped green space.
