Two people have been arrested after gunshots were fired during "mindless violence" in South Yorkshire.

Police responded to reports of shots being fired at a property in Rawmarsh, Rotherham, at about 18:20 GMT on Monday.

Armed officers attended Dawson Avenue and found evidence consistent with a firearms discharge, South Yorkshire Police said.

Nobody was injured during the incident, the force confirmed, with a 44-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman held on suspicion of possession of a firearm and possession of a bladed article.

Det Insp Claire Moss said: “This sort of mindless violence has no place in our communities.

“We will not tolerate gun crime in South Yorkshire, and I want to reassure the public that our teams are working hard to bring those responsible to justice.”

Those with information have been asked to get in contact with police.
