A new dad is "over the moon" after welcoming "the perfect birthday present" in the early hours of Christmas morning.

Scott Smith was born on Christmas Day in 1991, with his great grandmother Edie Jones, born on that same day in 1906, as well as his third cousin in 1992.

He said mum Sadie was "doing well" but as the pair were convinced they were having a boy their new daughter does not have a name just yet.

"It's the best day of my life," said the 33-year-old construction business owner from Tonpentre, Rhondda Cynon Taf.

He joked that too many people in his family were born on that day already, so he was "ready for it".

He added that the baby was due on 21 December, so when that day passed he thought back to what the boys from work were betting on.

"Every one of them said 'it's going to be on Christmas day' so when the due date passed I just knew."

While the rest of us were doing our last minute Christmas shopping, Scott said he was rushing his wife to the Tirion Birth Centre in Ynysmaerdy.

"It was hectic," he recalled. "The midwives were brilliant though."

"Sadie done really well."
