A large bag of cannabis has been found in an abandoned van by police officers who at the time were searching for a stolen quad bike.

They were at a building on Eckington Road in Eckington, Worcestershire, on Wednesday while tracking a car linked to the stolen quad, West Mercia Police said.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested at the scene on suspicion of stealing a car.

While in the area, officers also discovered a "substantial" amount of cannabis in a bag hidden in the rear wheel arch of a transit van nearby - which was not to linked to the arrest.

The drugs were seized and destroyed, police said.

The force added the teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged with offences including driving a motor vehicle dangerously and driving other than in accordance with a licence.

He was released on bail to appear at Worcester Magistrates' Court on 29 January.
