A man caught riding an e-scooter without lights on a busy A-road at night had the vehicle seized by police.

He told officers he was journeying about 10 miles (16km) home on the A131 between Silver End and Halstead, in Essex, on Wednesday.

The road had a speed limit of 60mph (96.5km/h) and his presence created "significant safety risks", Essex Police said.

"The rider was not wearing appropriate safety equipment and was barely visible to other road users," the force added.
