A tipper truck driver has been killed in a collision involving another lorry on the A9 in the Highlands.

Police said James Noble was outside his vehicle when the incident happened between North Kessock and Tore, south of the road's junction with the B9161 to Munlochy.

The collision involving Mr Noble's Volvo tipper and a Scania tipper happened at about 01:50. Mr Noble died at the scene.

The 30-year-old's family said he was a "much-loved fiancé and an amazing dad".

'Greatly missed'

Police have appealed for witnesses, external to the incident which closed the A9 for about eight hours.

Mr Noble, who was also known as Jamie, was from the Nairn area.

His family said: “Jamie was a much-loved fiancé to Morven and an amazing dad to Daniel.

"He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends."

Sgt Ewan Calder said motorists travelling southbound on the A9 may have seen the incident.

He said: “Our thoughts are with Jamie’s family at this terrible time."

The Health and Safety Executive said it was liaising with Police Scotland, which is leading the investigation into the incident.
