A solar farm capable of powering thousands of homes could be built on farmland in Holderness.

Plans for the 500,000 sq m (5.4m sq ft) development have been lodged for a site between Burstwick and Burton Pidsea.

Enviromena Project Management UK Ltd said the solar farm would produce about 35MW of electricity - enough to power more than 18,300 homes each year.

The site could also support "light livestock grazing" and beekeeping, the application suggests.

Planning permission is being sought from East Riding of Yorkshire Council for a 40-year term and an independent assessment found that the arable agricultural land was of moderate or poor quality.

The site, off Daisy Hill Road, would have CCTV cameras and security fences.

About 245 jobs could be supported through construction and the supply chain, the plans suggest, external, based on research by the BRE National Solar Centre.
