Rail services in Glasgow were disrupted when a lorry struck a bridge in the city's Shettleston area.

The majority of trains that run through Shettleston station were cancelled or delayed as a result.

Carntynehall Road has now re-opened after initially being closed while the bridge was assessed for damage.

Services affected included trains from Helensburgh Central to Edinburgh and Balloch to Airdrie.

The incident happened at about 08:45.

Police Scotland said emergency services attended to the scene and inquiries were ongoing.

A spokeswoman added: "Carntynehall Rd, between Old Shettleston Rd and Cardowan Rd, has now re-opened following an earlier crash.

"Thanks to motorists for their patience."

Most ScotRail services on the route have resumed.

Phil Campbell, ScotRail's customer operations director, said: “The safety of our customers and staff is always our number one priority so it’s important that the bridge is fully assessed for any damage before trains are able to run."

Mr Campbell advised affected customers to use the rail operator's delay repay scheme for compensation, if they had been delayed by 30 minutes or longer.
